Hi, I’m John!

Welcome to my unapologetic dive into the chaos of the future. This isn’t your typical newsletter — it’s a mashup of emerging markets finance, social impact, web3, climate, and deep tech. Expect spicy takes, sharp analysis, and the occasional curveball personal reflection — because life is messy, and that’s where the good stuff happens. I’ve definitely got opinions on growing up as a pastor’s kid and playing cello competitively since the age of 5.

So, who is John, anyways?

Builder and startup operator. Data scientist. Writer. Traveler. Eternal learner.

I’ve spent the last 5 years at the messy, exhilarating intersection of innovation and impact in FinTech — getting Americans out of credit, building credit scoring platforms in Africa and Asia, underwriting smallholder farmers in Nepal, and supporting small business owners in rural Philippines.

I’m obsessed with solving hard problems and flipping the script on how tech can actually make the world suck less. I geek out on the big stuff: finance, web3, climate, deep tech, and how those things can actually make people’s lives better. When I’m not writing, you can find me on the tennis court or vibing to minimal tech music (perfect for both deep focus and dance floors).

Why subscribe?

I’m here to start conversations about the big ideas that can make the world a better place. I’ve worked in a variety of industries: finance, healthcare, politics, advertising, sports, gaming, and web3. I hope to bring the multitude of perspectives into sharing things I find interesting and then, engaging with you about it!
